Juan Bautista Gutiérrez Foundation, CMI’s social arm, presents 50 new scholarship awardees of its University Scholarship Programme

The Juan Bautista Gutiérrez Foundation, CMI ‘s social arm since 1985, reaffirms its work focused on education through the University Scholarship Program, presenting the 50 new scholarship recipients, who are part of the twenty-fourth edition. The young people recently began their university studies at the main private universities in the country.

Since 2000, the Juan Bautista Gutiérrez Foundation has awarded more than 463 university scholarships to young people who stand out for their high academic potential, as well as for their values, their commitment to change, to transform their future and that of their families.

The Foundation, together with CMI, seeks to solve the root of problems with comprehensive, replicable and self-sufficient programs in Education, Health, Nutrition and Entrepreneurship.

At this event, Juan José Gutiérrez, President of Juan Bautista Gutiérrez Foundation and Chairman of CMI Foods, said “We, CMI and Juan Bautista Gutiérrez Foundation believe and will continue to invest in the youth of our societyWe believe in the change we can achieve if we all work together, focused on generating development opportunities for all.”

Full scholarships for young Guatemalans with high academic performance.

The scholarship includes the payment of all academic costs, as well as accompaniment during the years of their studies. The new scholarship recipients come from different educational institutions throughout the country and were part of a rigorous selection process during 2023, which included a series of academic, psychological, and socioeconomic evaluations.

Of the scholarships awarded to date, 81% focus on engineering careers, in their different branches, in the areas of technology, biomedicine, environment, industry; and 19% on degrees in pure sciences, molecular biotechnology, innovation, business administration, communication, international business, marketing and business analytics, among others. Of these 143 young people come from the interior of the country and 320 young people belong to the capital.

To date, 231 professionals have graduated and are working in local and multinational companies both in Guatemala and in other countries. Many of them have also continued their specialization studies abroad.

The new generation of young people is the one that is innovating, is aware that engineering and technology are tools to support the achievement of the objectives and the relevance that sciences have in the development of any country.

“Today we are supporting and providing opportunities for young people with high academic performance to fulfill the dream of studying a career in the best private universities in the country, so that in the near future they can join the workforce and create development,” said Felipe Bosch, Vice President of Juan Bautista Gutiérrez Foundation.

As part of the closing of the ceremony, the Juan Bautista Gutiérrez Foundation announced the new call for applications for scholarships through its website: becas.fundacionjbg.org. The application form will be available from January 24 to March 20, 2024. The requirements to apply are: to currently be in the last year of high school, to be of limited economic resources and to have a cumulative average of 85 points from third grade onwards.
