CMI promotes small business growth and sustainable development

April 16, 2024

Inspired by the pioneering vision of our founder, Mr. Juan Bautista Gutiérrez, we celebrate entrepreneurship as a driving force for development and opportunity creation.

At CMI, Corporación Multi Inversiones, we believe in the transforming power of entrepreneurship and in people’s capacity to bring positive change to their communities.

Inspired by the legacy of our founder, Mr. Juan Bautista Gutiérrez, who was an entrepreneur and the creator of opportunities, we highlight four of our entrepreneurship- promotion initiatives that are part of our social action initiative CMI Emprende (CMI Entrepreneurs).

Training for Life: developing skills and creating opportunities

Training for Life is part of the Social Management Strategy programs of Hidroeléctrica Renace in Guatemala, and reflects our commitment to joint growth and sustainable development with an impact on people, families and communities. This program improves the technical skills of adolescents and adults in key areas such as welding, electricity, baking, and weaving, essential to improve their chances of employability and self-employment.

To date, the initiative has supported the creation of 56 local businesses.

Pradera Impulsa: building small and medium-sized businesses

The initiative launched by CMI Emprende and Pradera Impulsa focuses on small and medium-sized company promotion and growth within the Pradera Shopping Center network, part of the Business Unit of Real State Development. In the first edition, launched in June 2022, 20 companies participated, of which a significant 65% are led by women.

This initiative is a clear example of our belief in the opportunity to grow together, supporting entrepreneurs to take their businesses to scale through training and capacity-building and, in turn, create greater impact in their communities.

Casa de Pollo Rey: CMI-backed ventures

This Program brings together people with a vision and the desire for new challenges. In addition to helping them establish their own business by marketing Pollo Rey and Toledo products, they have the team and support of CMI Foods, with ongoing training on customer service, finance, innovation, marketing, safety and quality.

Today, there are more than 800 stores, with 80% of them run by women. Each Casa de Pollo Rey entrepreneur has the support of a dedicated manager, who oversees the quality and freshness of the products. With this we contribute to sustainable development and to strengthen the local economy.

COCREO fosters entrepreneur collaboration and innovation

COCREO, the Molinos Modernos Bakery and Pastry Academy is an innovative business collaboration model promoted by CMI. This platform makes it possible for entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) to build their technical and business capabilities, which produce sustainable economic benefits over time through bakery and pastry businesses.

A comprehensive study program offers a varied curriculum that includes comprehensive modules, an entrepreneur’s program, free innovation courses, and seasonal products that aim to improve profitability in our clients’ businesses. Currently, COCREO has trained more than 130,000 people in Central America and the Dominican Republic.

Pollolandia: a franchise concept in Central America

Since 1996, with a fried and roasted chicken fast food alternative idea, Pollolandia has directed its efforts for entrepreneurs to build their own business. With more than 800 points of sale in Honduras, Guatemala, Costa Rica and since 2023 in El Salvador, it is an innovative franchise program.

Commitment with the future

CMI, Corporación Multi Inversiones, has the entrepreneurial spirit of our founder in our DNA. We believe that by supporting entrepreneurs and boosting their businesses we contribute to economic development and foster positive social impact that impacts the lives of countless people.

Through these types of programs we reaffirm our commitment to creating economic value, and to the well-being and prosperity of families because we know that, more than building a business, we are driving a more promising future for the region.

CMI is led by Juan José Gutiérrez Mayorga, Chairman of CMI Foods and Juan Luis Bosch Gutiérrez, Chairman of CMI Capital, who reaffirm their commitment to continue making investments that promote sustainable development, creating the opportunity to grow together through programs and projects that promote entrepreneurship.
