The Estrategia & Negocios magazine highlights CMI as a multi-Latin family business that has stood out over time thanks to its ability to adapt, innovate and grow.
At CMI, Corporación Multi Inversiones, we are proud to be recognized by Estrategia & Negocios in its special issue “Centennial Companies: Legacy and Future Recipes.” The magazine, a leader and digital benchmark for business in Central America, highlights us as an example of perseverance, innovation and values rooted in more than 100 years of history.
CMI’s beginnings date back to 1920, when Juan Bautista Gutiérrez founded a small family store in San Cristóbal Totonicapán, Totonicapán in the highlands of Guatemala. Today, led by the third generation, at CMI we maintain an innovation and technology tradition with presence in more than 16 countries and with more than 40,000 workers. Our success has been forged in the ability to adapt to change, always maintaining the essence of a family business. We are a multi-Latin corporation committed to Responsibility, Excellence, Integrity and Respect, the REIR Values that have been the foundation of our legacy.
As part of the adaptation needed to grow, from 2015 to 2017 we experienced a transformation that led to the creation of two business groups: Foods and Capital, led respectively by our Chairmen Juan José Gutiérrez and Juan Luis Bosch. These two business groups, under the motto “One CMI”, consolidate our strong culture and drive development and growth in various geographies.
Guided by the drive to grow and the constant pursuit of excellence, in 2021 we celebrated of our first 100 years of history. CMI Capital marked a milestone with the placement of US$700 million in green bonds, the largest renewable energy transaction by a private company in Central America and the Caribbean. In 2022, Corporación Multi Inversiones announced a US$1.8 billion investment in growth, innovation and technology for its operations as part of its commitment to sustainable development. Also noteworthy are the US$190 million allocated to consolidate and grow the Pollo Campero brand in the United States.
At CMI, Corporación Multi Inversiones, we create value through our products and services. Our commitment to quality and passion for the customer, with the warmth of a family business, promotes sustainable development with impact on the communities and countries where we operate, following the vision of our sustainability leaders for the next 100 years, with a future full of opportunities for all.
